Catechesi is a Catholic formation app. This policy explains what information Catechesi collects, why, and what it does — and does not — do with it.
Your progress — display name, skill rating, streak, hearts, XP, topic progress, and achievements — is stored locally on your device. If you have iCloud enabled, this syncs across your own devices through your own private iCloud account (via Apple's CloudKit), the same way Notes or Reminders sync between your devices. Catechesi does not have access to this data; it never leaves Apple's systems and your own device.
Catechesi logs a small number of anonymous, first-party events — app opened, a free trial started or converted, a subscription ended — so we can understand overall app usage and make better decisions about the app (for example, whether a pricing change is working). Each event is tied only to a random identifier generated on your device the first time you open the app; it is never linked to your name, email address, or Apple ID. This data is sent to our backend provider, Supabase, and is never sold or shared with advertisers. There is no third-party analytics or advertising SDK anywhere in the app, no advertising identifier, and no cross-app tracking.
Creating an account is optional, and is only needed to purchase a subscription or to add friends. If you choose to sign in with "Sign in with Apple," we receive:
This information is stored with our backend provider, Supabase. If you add a friend by sharing codes with them, your skill rating and streak become visible to that specific person only — never publicly, and never to anyone you haven't exchanged a code with.
If you challenge a confirmed friend to a duel, Catechesi stores which of you started it and, for each round, whether each of you answered the three questions correctly or not. This is visible only to the two of you — never to anyone else, never a public leaderboard. If you remove that friend, this duel history is deleted along with the friendship.
Catechesi lets signed-in users flag a question that seems wrong. If you do, we store the question you flagged, what you wrote, and the contact information you optionally provide, so we can follow up if needed.
Once your skill rating reaches 2400 or higher, you can propose a new question for the app. Doing so sends your display name, current skill rating, and the question you wrote (topic, level, prompt, explanation, and citation) to us for review. This is used only to decide whether to add the question to the app's content — it is never published under your name, and is not visible to other users.
Redeeming a free-pass code checks it against a list of valid codes. No personal information is submitted as part of this — just the code itself.
Subscription purchases are handled entirely by Apple and our subscription management provider, RevenueCat. Catechesi never sees or stores your payment or card information — Apple processes all billing directly.
Catechesi's core learning content requires no account and is appropriate for a general audience. Creating an account requires Sign in with Apple, which is subject to Apple's own age requirements and protections for Apple IDs.
If this policy changes, the "last updated" date above will change, and material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
